Glen Pieschke from Estero, Florida had a nice sign displayed with his 1962 Chevy Bel Air that alerted those that didn’t already know about his special car. A bone stock ‘62 Chevy with the 409/409hp motor would run in the 13’s at over 100 mph with narrow nylon bias-ply tires, full exhaust system and 4.56 rear gears. Not bad for a full size car weighing in at 3,500 lbs! Immediately it became one of the hottest factory drag cars of all time, with the likes of Dyno Don Nicholson, Dave Strickler and Hayden Profit consistently defeating all comers running 12.5 seconds at 110 mph. The performance of this car was so legendary the Beach Boys wrote a song about them. Only 8,909 409’s were produced in all body styles, and it is estimated that only around 2,000 “Bubble Top” 409’s were made. Glen’s is painted Ermine white with a red interior, has a 4-speed close ration transmission, and when new had an MSRP just over $3,500.
