Classic Cars Of The World Car Show • August 3rd, 2008

story, photos and captions by John Michael

On Sunday, August 3rd, 2008, the 1st Annual Classic Cars Of The World Car Show was held at the World Ford dealership in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The show was open to all makes, models and years, and special parking was made available for those who entered the show with Ford, Mercurys and Lincolns. Hosted by Russ G. Events, the show was held to benefit the American Cancer Society. The weather forecast had called for rain throughout the day, and after the heavy overnight and early rains departed, the warm, humid and rain-free conditions that existed during the show actually came as a pleasant surprise. The registration tent opened at around 9:00am, and dash plaques along with goody bags filled with an event T-Shirt and hat, and Ford promo items were distributed. Around 150 show vehicles turned out, which is outstanding for a first time event. DJ “Scott the Music Man” provided the entertainment throughout the day, and was also broadcasting from the show on 88.7 FM. Several vendors had displays set up promoting their goods and services, and food and beverage tents were on hand to quench any thirst or hunger pains.

After viewing the variety of quality show vehicles, many returned to cool off in the shade and check out the vehicles on display under the registration tent, which included a few early Thunderbirds, some Model A’s and a new white with blue stripes Shelby GT 350 Mustang. By mid-afternoon, the judging had been completed and it was time for the drawings to be held and the awards to be presented under the registration tent. A special drawing was held for everyone who registered a vehicle to win a 10’x10’ pop-up tent. A 50/50 drawing was also held, and half of the money went to benefit the American Cancer Society, and the other half paid out $164 to a lucky winner, who donated it back to help fight cancer. The Club Participation award went to the Magic City Mustang Club, who had the most members with vehicles in attendance, and 19 different car clubs were represented in this show. The awards were separated into classes divided by years, makes and models, and included some unique glass square trophies. Several specialty awards were also presented for various categories and some of the “Best Of” awards included the Best Ford Truck, Best Unrestored Ford, Best Ford Powered, Best Ford Street Rod, Best Model A, Best Paint, Best Engine, Best Foreign Car, Best Truck, Best Street Rod, Best Custom, Best Model T, Best Mercury, and Oldest Original Car.

The 1st Annual Classic Car Of The World Car Show held at World Ford in Pembroke Pines turned out to be a great event to benefit the American Cancer Society. The words “1st Annual” in the title of this show suggests this will become an annual event (which we hope it does!), so keep checking for a listing in the Coming Attractions section of Mike Kelly’s Cruise News.
