Cruisin' Destination Daytona's 1st Anniversary • May, 2007

story and photos by Carroll Hamilton

Saturday night, May 20th, 2007, was the third Saturday of the month and Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona celebrated the First Anniversary of the highly popular Cruisin’ Destination Daytona. Under perfect Florida skies several hundreds of car enthusiasts from all over central, east central and north eastern Florida came together to cruise, party and have a great time.

Mickey Lauria and his Total Performance crew celebrated the occasion by handing out special First Anniversary dash plaques to the first 200 registered cars and trucks.

Also, in keeping with the anniversary theme, 1932 Fords, which are celebrating their 75th anniversary during 2007, were featured. Awards were presented to the Best Open ‘32 Ford (won by Ed Shoenleber of Palm Coast), the Best Closed ‘32 Ford (going to Larry Harris of Port Orange), and the Destination Daytona “Merchants Pick” ‘32 Ford (presented to Cliff Thompson of Port Orange for his ‘32 Ford Pickup Truck). Door prizes, including merchandise from the merchants, $25 gift certificates from Total Performance Hot Rod Parts, and $100 gift certificates from YearOne (muscle car parts) were also distributed. Add all of that to a live band, a DJ spinning rock ‘n roll, and the many amenities of Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona and you had a fun filled late afternoon party that celebrated the First Anniversary of Cruisin’ Destination Daytona in fine style.

Cruisin’ Destination Daytona has also had many interesting themes over recent months, which included Tri-Five automobiles (1955 through 1957) during June, in addition to hosting an official preliminary contest in the worldwide search for the 2007 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist. July featured Corvettes, and the theme for August, 2007 was Camaros.

Remember, the Cruisin’ Destination Daytona party happens the third Saturday of every month at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, located off I-95 at US-1. The advertised starting time is 5:00pm, the fun goes on until it is over, plus admission and registration are always free. For more information you can call 386-671-7103 or 386-437-9996. CN
