34th Annual Easter Rod Run in Orlando

Easter eggs and classic cars might have more in common than you may think. Both are often brightly colored, can be a personal statement about those who created them, and during the beginning of April they are put outside for all to find and enjoy. OK, maybe all of that is a stretch, but on Easter weekend there were lots of great cars and trucks gathered for the Easter Rod Run at the Holiday Inn Select at the north west corner of University Boulevard and Alafaya Trail in Orlando, near the U.C.F. College area.

The event is hosted by the Early Irons of Orlando, and celebrating its 34th Anniversary this year, it is one of the oldest events of its type in the state. It has kept going over all of the years by focusing on what people like about cool cars in the first place; having FUN with them. There is no judging and no trophies at this one, just hanging out and having fun with fellow enthusiasts. However, don’t mistake that for being unorganized, as the Early Irons always keep things running smoothly. Plus there are a variety of games and raffles going on for entertainment, with good prizes and giveaways to be had....and even an appearance by the Easter Bunny!

As always the good times got rolling on Friday night with their legendary BBQ dinner. Each registration includes two tickets, and you’d be best to bring a big appetite. They offer up some good meat, veggies and desert items that always please the palate. Heck, just the meal and hanging out with friends on Friday night is worth the price of registration alone....but there is still another day to go.

The majority of the participants are already in place by the end of Friday night, but on Saturday still more cool cars and trucks come rolling in, and with all the oak trees surrounding the Holiday Inn there is plenty of shade to go around. DJs Butch and Jennifer Johnston of WJBJ Cruisin’ With The Classics again played the golden oldies, and Jennifer once again headed up a big 50/50 raffle drawing. The Early Irons should be proud to have another great event under their belt, and we’ll be looking forward to next year’s well in advance. CN
