Gainesville Super Chevy Show

On October 22-24, 2004, the AutoZone Super Chevy Show once again returned to Gainesville Raceway, bringing out lots of the bow-tie faithful for a fun all-Chevy shebang. This of course included the Tremec Transmissions Car Show portion of the event, which is where we spent most of our time while in attendance.

Over the years the Super Chevy Show has gained recognition as a great place to bring your Chevy, or Chevy powered car or truck out for a good time. Plus, with the team of meticulous judges deciding who gets the many prestigious awards, when you take home top honors from a Super Chevy Show you have some really bragging rights...and you just might wind up in the coverage of Super Chevy Magazine, or broadcast on the coverage included on ESPN 2. There were rows and rows of great quality vehicles making up the car show area, all of which were detailed superbly for a striking display of Chevys that just about anyone could appreciate.

When the Nitro Coupes fired up and hit the dragstrip everyone took notice. These wild rides are a blend of today’s go-fast technology with a nostalgic appearance. The Nitro Coupes are a professional category exclusive to the Super Chevy Show Tour, and capable of times in the low 6-second zone at around 230 miles per hour it is easy to see why they are fun to watch and prove to be a popular attraction all across the USA. Another fan favorite are the 300 mph Jet Cars and Jet Dragsters, which put on a great side by side display. Roger Gustin, who produces the Super Chevy Show, was the first person licensed by the NHRA to drive a jet-powered car. He no longer drives them, but certainly knows how to put on a great exhibition of fire and smoke to put a smile on your face....and that tradition remains at all the stops of the Super Chevy Show. Throw an outrageous Chevy Astro Van Wheelstander into the mix, and lots of big money bracket racing, and it really is well rounded action on the quarter mile all weekend long.

Plus, for 2005 they are adding an exciting Top Sportsman class, which will be a 16 car qualified field open to all GM vehicles. Those that fail to qualify will automatically be entered in the Bracket One class with no additional entry fee.

Rounding out the experience at all Super Chevy Shows are new parts in the performance and restoration marketplace, used parts in the swap meet, vehicles being bought and sold in the car corral, and plenty of food and drink available to keep you fueled up for the fun.

The Super Chevy Show schedule now includes two Florida events in the 19 stop trot around the country - with the Gainesville one ending each season, and the Bradenton one starting the new one every year. Kick off the 25th Anniversary of the Super Chevy Show tour at Bradenton Motorsports Park on February 25-27, 2005. It will once again be a great outing for thousands of Chevy fanatics from all over the Sunshine State, and we hope you’ll be one of them!
