On Saturday, December 13, 2008, the Christ United Methodist Church held their 6th Annual Holiday Car Show on the grounds of the Christ United Methodist Church in Sanford, Florida. Sunny skies, and cool but comfortable temperatures prevailed; once again proving the theory that having to wear a light jacket beats shoveling snow.
Dash plaques and goody bags were available to the first 100 vehicles registered, and coffee and doughnuts were available in the morning. After parking and detailing their rides, many participants visited the tables set up displaying arts and crafts as well as the now famous “Baked Goods” table, offering some really tasty treats for sale. Under the pavilion, anyone who worked up an appetite could order everything from hot dogs, slices of pizza, hamburgers and cheeseburgers, sausage and peppers sandwiches, chili and BBQ sandwiches along with bottled water and soft drinks were sold. Door prizes were given out throughout the day, and Laurie, “The Queen of Doo-Wop”, played all of our favorite Christmas carols and cruising songs, as well as keeping us entertained with music trivia.
After the door prizes that were given away throughout the show were gone, and the 3 sets of judges that made their rounds were finished evaluating their categories, it was time for the awards ceremony. The trophies were presented for 1st thru 3rd place in 19 different categories, including a Young Bloods category, which was for car owners that were 21 or younger. Several Specialty Awards were also presented for the People’s Choice, Best Engine, Best Interior, Best Paint, Best of Show and Club Participation.
