Mustang & Mustangs at Fantasy of Flight

On Sunday, April 4th, 2004, the 7th Annual Mustangs & Mustangs show was held at the Fantasy of Flight Airfield in Polk City, Florida. The show featured the P-51 and Ford Mustangs, but was open to all Ford powered vehicles, thus bringing together the best of vintage aircraft with classic automobiles. The event was hosted by the Imperial Mustangs of Polk County and Fantasy of Flight, and a portion of the proceeds were donated to VISTE of Lakeland, Florida. Entertainment was provided by DJ Butch & Jennifer Johnston of WJBJ Cruisin’ With The Classics, as well as several fly overs by various vintage aircraft throughout the day.

As the show cars entered the field after receiving a goody bag, the vehicles were photographed next to a P-51 or one of several other vintage aircraft on the runway. Once parked in the show area, the participants were free to explore the world’s greatest aircraft collection at Fantasy of Flight. Activities throughout the facility included taking back lot and restoration tours, watching a P-51C restoration video, visiting Fightertown, which was has the flight simulators, walking through a diorama of a World War II bombing mission aboard a B-17, and viewing over 30 rare and significant aircraft from throughout the history of aviation. Also adding to the celebration was a BBQ tent, which for a nominal charge had a BBQ dinner and soft drinks. Other food options including dining in the Compass Rose Restaurant grill or stopping by the Officer’s Club for a snack and something to drink. The weather was post car perfect, so in addition to the P-51 Mustang flyovers, Waldo’s Bi-Plane rides were also available for a fee.

A 50/50 drawing was held, with $290 going to the winner. A raffle also took place, and those items included a $100 gift certificate from National Parts Depot, a pair of jack stands, two car care kits, a cooler bag, two large stuffed Mickey Mouse and Tigger characters, and a Bi-Plane ride, which was won by Herb Hoover of Davenport, Florida.
