“Super Mustang” is the name of this nostalgic drag car. It was the creation of Ron Pellegrini for the 1965 season in the A/FX class, and has a fiberglass body, tube chassis, altered wheel base, and weighed in at less than 2,000 pounds. Add a blown and injected 392 Hemi and it was ready for action. According to the paper displayed with the car the combination of the altered body (16” cut out of the center, rear wheel wells moved forward 7”, and the fronts forward 12”) the Press called it the “funniest car”....leading to the term “Funny Car”. Robert Schramm purchased the car from a junk yard in Tampa back in 1987, minus the motor, rear end, wheels and tires. The frame was bent from numerous wheel stands and rusted beyond safety standards, so everything was rebuilt duplicating the original.
