The original Rear Engine Funny Car, the Plymouth Dealers Association Barracuda. Tom McEwen originally had the car built by B&M Automotive in Van Nuys, California. Shortly after its debut in 1965 the Barracuda flew and crashed at Lion’s Drag Strip at about 150 miles per hour! McEwen rebuilt it and raced it again. Eventually the first Rear Engine Funny Car was sold to Fred Goeske who is pictured here driving the car at Pomona, California. Goeske eventually topped 190 miles per hour in the steel bodied creation. Note the open face helmet and lack of a breather mask on Goeske during this run.
