After an October of rain, red tide, nor’easters, fog and generally rotten conditions, the weather gods smiled on the St. Augustine Cruisers (SAC) and gave them a perfect day on November 3rd, 2007, for their 6th Annual Car & Truck Show. There was sunshine and highs in the 70’s, and over 200 cars and trucks showed up to compete in 43 classes at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds. The show was open to all makes, models and years.

According to SAC club president David Usina, the impressive turnout set new records for the club, who started off the weekend on Friday night with a BBQ and Sock Hop for the pre-registrants and local club members. A crowd-pleasing band kept the guests and volunteers dancing until the late hours.

On the day of the show, SAC volunteers (easily recognizable in their day-glow orange T-Shirts) were all over the area, registering and parking cars, and running the myriad of events going on at the show. The judges moved through the cars and trucks, marking the scores on their clipboards. One end of the Fairground’s main building was occupied by a stage, with music and entertainment all day, and on the other end the food service stayed busy dishing up sandwiches and snacks. There were tricycle races for the kids, vendors with auto related products, and door prizes. A fierce pirate, accompanied by an attractive wench, sold 50/50 tickets for a prize that totaled just under $900 at the end of the day.

In addition to the 43 classes, a special award was presented - “Rick’s Pick”. This award, presented to a street rod or antique car, is a special trophy to honor Rick Molner, one of the club founders who many call the “Godfather” of the St. Augustine Cruisers. Sadly, Rick passed away in June of 2007. In addition to the trophy at the annual St. Augustine Cruiser Car Show, a car is also selected for a special “Rick’s Pick” trophy at each of the club’s monthly cruise-ins on the third Saturday of the month at the Prime Outlet Mall located at I-95 and S.R. 16 (exit 318) in St. Augustine from 5:00-8:00pm.
