While many people might have mistaken it for a Chevy II, this is actually a very rare 1967 Pontiac Acadian Canso. The Acadian was produced by GM of Canada from 1962-71, so that Canadian Pontiac & Buick dealers would have a compact model to sell, since the Pontiac Tempest was not available in Canada. Initially, Acadians were re-trimmed Chevy IIs offered as a base model, the mid-priced version was the Invader, and the top of the line was the Beaumont. In 1964 & ‘65 the Beaumont name was moved to a re-trimmed version of the contemporary Chevelle, at which time the name Canso took over for the top of the line smaller model. Both Acadians and Beaumonts were sold by Pontiac dealers, but were considered as separate makes, not Pontiac models. The Acadian continued using the Chevy II / Nova body through mid-1971, after which it was replaced by the Pontiac Ventura II. The Marina blue Acadian Canso pictured above belongs to Tara Bush, and is powered by a 283ci, 195hp V-8 with a 2-speed Powerglide automatic.
