Bill & Louise Oremovich from New Smyrna own this green 1957 Chevy Nomad. Bill gave us a handout that included a story, which described how he remembers that back in 1966 he and his dad rode out to look at cousin George’s “station wagon”. Their family was in the market for a newer car and his cousin had three 1957 Chevys at the time and needed to sell one of them. His dad liked the old wagon, and said some day it would be worth a lot of money. Though Bill wanted any of the Chevys other than the “ugly wagon”, that is what his dad decided on. A deal was made, and Bill’s dad used it for many years before giving it a rest in the family garage back in Burbank, Illinois. Then in 1990 Bill’s dad suggested that he “retire” it to Florida....so now dad’s wagon sees cruise duty when possible, and to this day only has 37,000 miles. Yes, the wagon did indeed go up in value, as there aren’t too many ‘57 Chevy Nomads with factory A/C, power steering, electric windows, electric antenna, electric seat, tinted glass, V-8, automatic and dual exhaust. But most importantly, Bill’s father and mother can still enjoy the old wagon when on vacation from Illinois. After all, not much has changed about it from 1966 to today.
