Super Chevy Show at Gainesville Raceway • September 18th-20th, 2008

Initially it had appeared that there would be no 2008 dates for the Super Chevy Show in Florida, so when they announced the addition of a stop at Gainesville Raceway on September 18-20, 2008, the bow-tie faithful rejoiced.

Overcast skies and mid-80’s temperatures were present when we attended on Sunday, and though there was a light shower it did little to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. The car show portion of the event features lots of prestigious awards on both Saturday and Sunday, plus some great prizes, including a Tremec 5-speed transmission! After looking over all the great vehicles in the car show area and snapping plenty of pictures, we spent some time in the manufacturers’ midway scoping out all the new parts and accessories, plus the swap meet and car corral areas. There was lots of action of the drag strip, which included the mostly nostalgia bodied Nitro Coupes, Jet powered Dragsters and Funny Cars, and the Astro Van Wheelstander.

Dates for 2009 have already been announced, and this year’s Florida stop will be on March 6-8 at the recently renovated Palm Beach International Raceway (formerly Moroso Motorsports Park) at 17047 Beeline Highway in Jupiter, Florida.
