The USA Fleamarket Car & Motorcycle Show is held on the second Sunday of every month at 11721 U.S. Highway 19 in Port Richey, Florida. It’s held right inside the flea market’s grounds, so there’s plenty to see and do if you are a show participant or spectator.
Driving to the show on June 8th, 2008, I was a little apprehensive because there was a chance of rain in the forecast. It was a little cloudy on my way over, but nothing serious enough to turn me around. The sun popped in and out throughout the morning and early afternoon. The day turned out to be pretty pleasant after all, and only clouded up seriously toward the latter part of the afternoon when we received some showers.
Held simultaneously and adjacent to the car show is an open air fleamarket in which the public, for a very minimal fee, can sell yard sale type items. The USA Flea Market’s main shopping area is under roof, and occupies a much greater area with vendors of all types. I managed to find a 60’s dog dish hubcap for my Buick GS, and an original set of factory 5.0 liter exhaust manifolds for a mere $15. What a deal! I plan to come back more often in the future to scout out more deals.
Food vendors are steps away from the show, and I found myself trying some kettle corn, hot dogs, and some miniature fried donuts, just to name a few. If you’re looking for a particular “comfort food” you’ll no doubt find it there.
Phil Desio, Barbara DeCeck, Frank and the rest of the staff do a great job of handling the management of these events. The $10 entry fee is very reasonable, and the first 50 entrants receive a dash plaque, door prize ticket and a chance to win a Top 30 trophy. There are also three “Best Of” trophies for Best Paint, Best Engine, and Best Of Show. Door prizes are donated by local and flea market vendors, and are usually automotive in nature. Registration takes place from 9:00am until 12:30pm, and the show usually runs until 2:00pm. Phil and his staff, always looking out for the welfare of the car show participants, have been known to be “weather sensitive”. If the temperature gets too warm he has no qualm to award door prizes and trophies early. There are 50/50 raffle tickets available for anyone who feels lucky, and the drawing usually concludes the show.
This is a great place to spend a few hours with the family because there is something for just about everyone, and spectator admission is always free.
