Gary and Kathleen Collins of Orlando must have acted fast when we started registration in January, as they were the first to get their pre-registration in. They are also Old Town regulars, and their red 1966 Ford Fairlane 500XL convertible is a crowd pleaser. Of the 317,274 Fairlanes built in ‘66 only 2,280 were 500XL convertibles, and sold new for $3,965. Items include the original 289 engine, C4 automatic, parchment interior, factory A/C and bucket seats. It has been in the movie From The Earth To The Moon, plus a couple local commercials. At Beach Blast 12 it was displayed with drive-in restaurant and movie items, with neat descriptions about their origin and history.
