Mike & Elaine Scott’s Pre-Vetsday Show took place on Sunday, November 2nd, 2008. After a horrible rain day on Saturday, we woke up to a quiet, rain free Sunday morning and made our way to Kelsey Park in Lake City, Florida - about a 30 minute drive from our home in Hobe Sound. We arrived in time to place the vendors where we wanted them throughout the park, and set up registration. This was our 3rd Annual show for the Parks and Recreation Department of Lake Park, and it was the biggest. We had loads of door prizes that my wife and I gathered for months, including a Grand Prize of a $500 NASCAR watch! We gave each registered entry 10 door prize tickets, and you could pick out any of the prizes, from gas cards to magazine subscriptions, to orchids and dinners in area restaurants. Just about everyone won something as the day went on.

The feature cars (used on flyers, posters, and advertising) had a special spot around the fountain in the center of the park, and each received a special trophy (as they were not in competition with other vehicles). Best Of Show was Jeff Taschner’s 1935 Chevy street rod, which is also an Air Ride Technologies display vehicle at major rod runs and shows. The park was filled with spectators all day, and car people from all special interest groups came out to honor our Veterans of yesterday and today.

There were fabulous show cars, street rods, customs, late models and old school rides, all coming together in a beautiful park to the delight of all, young and old. In the spirit of judged class competition for trophy awards, like the big shows of the 50’s and 60’s that recognized the design ideas and workmanship of car builders, owners and showmen who make up our car people community. Club Participation went to the Treasure Coast Street Rods, who left the Stuart area in a pouring rain to come to the event.

DJ Bill Byrd entertained the crowd throughout the day, and many enjoyed the fine restaurants across the street from the show. Sponsors were there to display their products and services, including Rick’s Rods, Mullinax Ford, Kauff’s Signs, and DV8 Motorsports.

Next year’s show will be a Top 40, to provide better class breakdown for competitors serious about showing....and we hope to see you there. Keep an eye on the Coming Attractions section of Mike Kelly’s Cruise News as the event draws closer, and mark your calendars to attend. -Mike Scott
